Common Questions – Science & Engineering
We have the attitude of using the best tool for the job. For us that means using Clojure, Hadoop, AWS, Java, HTML5, backbone.js, Rails, and our own set of tools.
We develop using an AGILE/Scrum methodology. One of our core values is maintaining openness and transparency at all times. Daily standup meetings and regular sprint planning for our 2 week sprints help us maintain transparency and work collaboratively.
We develop in 2 week sprint cycles. Every 4th sprint cycle is a Sprintbatical, or a 2 week period where you can actively explore topics and projects that are personally compelling.
Sprintbaticals can focus on a topic of your choosing. Whether it be working on an internal tool or learning technologies you think may be useful. Sprintbaticals have led to consumer-facing products, internal tools, and whitepapers.
Most of our engineering team is located in our San Francisco, Seattle and Kansas City offices. As we expand our sales territories in the Midwest, we are expanding our engineering team in those areas as well.
Do your homework. We are serious about making an impact on the world, and that fundamentally starts with good code. Our technical interviews focus on how you code, and work with others. We are a collaborative team; we like to pair program, whiteboard, and do code reviews. You should expect the same in an interview.
