FieldView Cab App Current Versions Save On iPad Storage

Overview

It can be difficult for growers who farm a large number of acres or who have collected data for several seasons to not exceed the storage limits on their iPads. To help address this issue only Field Data Files from the most recent season will be downloaded upon installing the app. If the user chooses to build a map from an older season, the Field Data Files will be downloaded before the map is built.

Available on: Apple iOS™

It can be challenging for operations that farm a large number of acres to avoid exceeding the storage capacity of their iPad® devices. To help minimize this problem FieldView™ Cab current versions will only automatically download the Field Data Files for the last two seasons. Then Field Data Files are downloaded if the user builds maps from older seasons.

Because downloading Field Data Files requires an internet connection, a prompt will appear warning that cellular data will be used when not on WiFi. The download and build will only begin when the Download and Build option is selected.

Note that all current versions will no longer download the Field Data Files from older seasons. iPads that are already logged into an account and are updating to current versions will not delete already downloaded Field Data Files. Alternatively, a hidden button exists to remove the Field Data Files for an older season on an existing install. This can be done by long pressing on the Clear All Maps button at the top of the Data page after selecting a season. A confirmation prompt will appear before maps are cleared and Field Data Files are removed. This will not delete the field or any of its associated data from the cloud. It’s possible to re-download it and build maps at any time in the future.

It’s likely that in a future version it will be easier and more obvious to remove Field Data Files for a particular season in the future as we gain confidence with the hidden approach working successfully.
