What generation iPad® device do I need to use FieldView™ Drive?

  • iPad Device Recommendations
  • As of March 2026, if you are purchasing a new iPad® device to run the FieldView platform apps, we recommend purchasing either the iPad Pro® or iPad® series. A minimum capacity with either 128 GB (for operations with 1500 acres or less with only 1-2 years of historical data actively on the iPad) or 256 GB (for larger operations with higher acreage or more historical data) is recommended. If purchasing an iPad with USB-C connector, a USB-A to USB-C cable is required when using a Precision Planting 20|20® monitor. FieldView Starter Kits now include USB-C cables.
  • Generally you can expect to get about 5 years of supported use from the date the iPad® device was released.
  • FieldView generally supports Apple's three latest iPadOS releases. To update to the most recent version of the FieldView™ Cab app, you must use an iPad that supports one of the three. To see the latest iPadOS versions, click here.

Can I use a wifi-only iPad® device?

Yes, a wifi-only iPad® device may be used but it is recommended that it is connected to a wireless hotspot while in the field so there is a real time data connection.

Alternatively, it will need to be connected to a wifi network in the evenings and CloudSync each evening in order to update your account information. Wifi-only iPad® devices, which are not connected to a cellular network in the field, will not have the ability to use many of the “real time” features like RemoteView, Planting Alerts, Map Streaming, etc.

What if I have bad cellular coverage in some of my fields?

If the iPad® device’s cellular connection is lost, data flowing to and from the FieldView™ Cab app will not work until a good connection is reestablished. The data on the FieldView™ Drive will be stored on the iPad® device until a network connection is available. When the network connection is restored, the stored data will be transmitted to the FieldView™ Cloud so there is no loss of data.

Will I still be able to use a Bluetooth headset in the cab?

Yes, a Bluetooth headset will function properly while the FieldView™ Drive is active.
