“An hour of planning can save you 10 hours of doing.”
Planning season is a time for preparation, organization and reflection. But after a busy harvest season, strategizing for the upcoming year can feel overwhelming. Luckily, FieldView™ can equip you with knowledge and insights about past seasons’ performance all in one place, so you can easily turn your data into decisions that will position you for success come spring.
Every good plan starts with a checklist. Here are some to-dos we recommend checking off for a productive planning season.
Before devising a plan for next season, let’s learn from the past. Start by uploading your planting and harvest data for an objective look at where you excelled, where to improve and why it all happened. If you haven’t already, click here to learn more about our new and improved FieldView Drive 2.0 ahead of planting season. Data transfer into FieldView happens automatically with FieldView™ Drive 2.0. But if you don’t have equipment compatible with FieldView Drive 2.0, no worries. You can manually upload historical field boundaries, planting, harvest or soil files via Data Inbox.
After uploading data into FieldView, you can analyze field performance or use yield data to better understand seed performance by operation, field, hybrid and soil type.
If necessary, yield data can be easily adjusted for more accurate results. Edit metrics like harvested acres, total wet weight, dry bushels, field moisture and more.
By creating reports within FieldView, raw information becomes more digestible, trends start to emerge, and your next steps become clear. Your data becomes an even more powerful tool towards profitability when you can easily share reports with your agronomic partners.
Rather than making decisions based on results from someone else’s trials across the state, the data you collect for your fields is yours to learn from. With FieldView, it’s simple to visualize multiple data layers at once to see how inputs performed in specific environments. Select the data layers you want to view, such as hybrid and yield data, or compare uploaded soil test data to other map layers like Yield or Planting.
Planning season is the perfect time to make sure your FieldView Cab app is updated and ready to go for planting season. Download or update the FieldView Cab app in the iOS App Store®. Version 13.3.1 or higher is the one you want. But you don’t need to know the exact number — just press the “Update” button. Don’t forget to update the FieldView Cab app on your tablet and your phone.
At the end of harvest, you need yield data to be easy to read. But if you labeled the same hybrid three different ways, it will show up on three different lines, even though it's the same seed! If you find typing the actual seed name cumbersome, scan the seed bag to enter the correct name automatically. This is great winter prep activity and another example of how an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Soil tests can reveal valuable opportunities in a field, but some farmers may be deterred by the thought of how cumbersome testing has traditionally been. With FieldView, you can easily import Soil Tests data through the Data Inbox. This feature allows you to visualize organic matter (OM), cation-exchange capacity (CEC), potential of hydrogen (pH), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) and compare this information side-by-side with other data layers.
Finalizing planting plans? Let FieldView Seed Scripts help manage variability on your farm by creating accurate zones with hybrid-specific planting rates.
Developing precision application zones can be a hassle, but Automatic Zone Creation uses the satellite imagery from your FieldView account to generate precision management zones. You can even change the number of zones depending on how specific you want to get when entering the field in 2024. The tool also makes it easy to run what-if scenarios for fertility plans, allowing you to fine-tune how precise you want to get and what that might mean for your fertilizer bill in 2024.
